Rocky Point Ice Cream

From PomoHistoryOrg

Rocky Point Ice Cream (RPIC) is an Ice Cream company that was started in 1990 by local Port Moody Resident Jamie Cuthbert.

Originally the Ice Cream shop was a small, seasonal retail operation in the back of the city maintenance building at Rocky Point.

The shop originally sold brand name ice creams.

In 2000, RPIC relocated to a small retail location on the west end of the Rocky Point Pool building.

In 2005, RPIC negotiated a long term lease with the City of Port Moody, which included a major capital investment in creating a new, expanded store at the pool building location.

In 2007 RPIC opened a small retail operation inside the 'Innovation Centre', the home of the Tri Cities Chamber of Commerce, at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam, which was closed in 2010. Rocky Point Ice Cream ran a season ice cream trailer at Lafarge Lake from 2019 through 2022.

In 2018, RPIC opened a second 'brick and mortar' retail location in New Westminster, and in 2022 they opened a full retail location selling Ice Cream and Coffed/beverages at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam.

In 2019, RPIC acquired the former Western Safety building at 2920 Murray Street , between the Rocky Point Skate Park and Dog park, at the east side of Rocky Point Park. The building underwent significant renovations, overlapping into the global COVID pandemic, and was opened in 2022 as their main manufacturing plant for their food and ice cream products, as well as a small bistro/cafe.
