City of Port Moody
The City of Port Moody was incorporated in 1913, in British Columbia, Canada.
Port Moody was named for Col. Richard Clement Moody, who was the first lieutenant governor of the Colony of British Columbia.
The original City Hall was located on St Johns Street at Kyle. (This is the Port Moody Arts Centre since 2998).
The City Hall included the Port Moody Police Departement, which also started in 1913.
Port Moody is a part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (Metro Vancouver) and surrounds the waters to the eastern tip of Burrard Inlet which are part of the Port of Vancouver. Port Moody is also part of a 'sub region' known as the Tri Cities, which includes Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and the villages of Belcarra and Anmore.
The City of Port Moody has a Muncipal Police Department (Port Moody Police) and Municipal Fire Department (Port Moody Fire Rescue).
The City is host to Eagle Ridge Hospital, a 'community hospital' in the Fraser Health district .
As a Municipality in British Columbia, Port Moody has a 'Local Government' governed by an elected City Council of 6 City Councillors (Samantha Agatrap, Diana Dilworth, Kyla Knowles, Amy Lubik, Haven Lubriecki, Callan Morrison), and 1 Mayor (Meghan Lahti). (There are no declared political parties on Port Moody Council)
Port Moody is part of the BC Provincial electoral district of Port Moody-Coquitlam and is represented in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia by Rick Glumac (NDP-MLA).
The City of Port Moody is located entirely in the Federal riding of Canada; Port Moody—Coquitlam and is represented in the House of Commons of Canada by Member of Parliament Bonita Zarrillo (NDP-MP).
In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Port Moody had a population of 33,535 living in 13,109 private dwellings.
With a land area of 25.85 km2 (9.98 sq mi), it had a population density of 1,297.3/km2 (3,360.0/sq mi) in 2021.
